We've got one last surprise update for Silo 2021 before switching over to Silo 2022 (which is currently available in beta here, with an updated beta coming very soon): Silo 2021.5! The biggest new feature for this one is SVG file import, but we’ve also gone in and improved virtually every other format Silo imports and exports, including fixing issues with non-English characters in file paths.

SVG file import is perfect for bringing in logos, floor plans, and other intricate shapes you've drawn as vectors and instantly turning them into usable 3D geometry. SVG has been added as a default 3D file format, so you load files just as you would any other filetype, and adjust settings for import in the file format settings. Settings include auto extrusion, curve segment count, layer offset, import scale, and more.
Fixes to 3D import/export formats include things like improved support for normal vectors, auto tesselation of faces with holes for formats that don’t support face holes, improved handling of instances, and shape pivot preservation for FBX files. Several other bugs have been fixed in other file format support.
What's new in 2021.5?
- Added support for importing SVG vector files and converting them to usable geometry
- Improved support for normal vectors, holes, and instances across several import/export formats
- Added support for preservation of shape pivots when importing/exporting FBX files
- Fixed several bugs in STL file format for both import and export
- Fixed bugs preventing saving and loading files in paths including non-English characters
