Pixelmash 2026.1 is officially here! This release introduces a powerful new 9-Slice layer effect for accurate non-destructive asset resizing, a more intuitive transform tool for precision scaling, smarter numerical fields, and more!

The star of the show is the 9-Slice layer effect. This allows you to dynamically resize objects like walls, UI boxes, or platforms without any of the ugly stretching or loss of pixel accuracy. By dividing your art into a grid, Pixelmash can now repeat, stretch, or extend the center sections while keeping your edges and corners perfectly crisp. It’s a massive time-saver for generating multiple versions of an asset from a single drawing.

We’ve also overhauled scaling in the transform tool. It now behaves much more like traditional graphics apps, scaling from the opposite corner or edge rather than just the center. You also now have the freedom of unconstrained scaling from corners by default, though you can still hold Shift to lock in the aspect ratio.

Additionally, we’ve introduced several workflow efficiency updates in a few key UI elements. You can now dial in values in numerical fields with a quick scroll of your mouse/trackpad, plus perform simple calculations (like “20+5”) directly in the box. Layer effects are now collapsible to help you keep your side panel from getting cluttered, and we’ve finally added the current file name to the window title so you always know exactly which project you're in at a glance.
