We added tons of new features to Silo & Milo in 2022, and many more are coming in 2023!
2022 brought a truly remarkable number of new features and improvements to both Silo and its companion renderer, Milo. Silo saw the incorporation of Pixar’s OpenSubdiv to power its subdivision, built-in screen recording, a powerful implementation of non-destructive shape modifiers, and tons more. Milo added improved raytracing, VR improvements, playable reference characters, and saw other benefits from its upgrade to Unreal Engine 5. See more details below!

We’re happy to announce that Silo 2022.2 has been released, with convenient new tools for aligning and evenly distributing selected items, plus support for viewport navigation using 3Dconnexion’s SpaceMouse hardware! We’ve also squashed several user-reported bugs.

The new Align/Distribute window can be found in the Modify menu. It works with shape, face, edge, or vertex selections, with buttons to align or evenly distribute selections along a given axis. Also included is an option to align using the first or last selected object, or the average of all selected objects.

We are very excited to announce the final release of Silo 2022.0, which is ready for you to download now! This update comes with some MAJOR fundamental improvements to the deep inner workings of Silo.

First off, we’ve swapped in Pixar’s OpenSubdiv library to power Silo’s subdivision surfaces. This means that on high-subdivision models RAM usage can be reduced by more than 50%, and interactive edits to your subd models will work faster and smoother than ever, often dramatically so.
Next, we’ve completely redesigned how Silo’s memory management works under the hood, which should increase the long-term stability and efficiency of Silo.
